“Wigeon”

8x10in acrylic on panel. Frame not included. 

This is a female wigeon. Males have a green stripe behind their eyes fading down the neck. To be honest the difference between them is so subtle that I prefer the females. The wigeons have a beautiful scale-like plumage throughout, and a beautiful light blue bill similar to a pintail. 

This brown and blue combination is so complementary and sings to my soul. This one happens to be one of my wife’s favorites! (She likes when I paint female birds!)
