"Disco Chicken"
11x14in acrylic on panel. Not framed.
The “peacock” as we like to call it, is the most recognizable exotic bird known to man. It was at one time quite exotic located primarily in the Asian continent, but because of its beautiful feathers, display and easy-to-manage nature, it has since been proliferated all over the known world.
Living in San Diego, I have had plenty of run-ins with peacocks, whether at the San Diego Zoo in which they would walk the pathways of the park or in someones back yard - I have seen my fair share of Indian Peafowl. I have fond memories of working with these creatures when taking care of the animals at Indian Hills Camp in Jamul. I would sometimes hear the bird bellowing across the camp - it has such a distinctive call - sounds like a woman yelling “help!” (definitely through me through a loop the first time!)
