“Comparison”
16x20in acrylic painting on canvas.
This is my take on “The Peacock and the Crane”
The original story goes something like this: a proud peacock is boasting to a crane that he is more beautifully feathered than the boring coat that the crane possessed. The crane in response said to the peacock “it is true that my feathers are not as impressive as yours, but when it comes to flying, I can soar freely in the clouds, whereas you are confined to the earth like any dunghill rooster.”
The moral of this fable hopefully is obvious. Comparison kills. It shows us that every time someone in their pride decides to compare, they will inevitably lose. I’ve lost a ton in my life to comparison. In fact I would also say the comparison is the thief of joy. Its a miserable place to be envious of others and the blessings they have. The grass will always look greener and the funny part is - they are probably thinking the same thing about YOU! Everyone has unique blessings. We should cherish them and not play the game of comparison. It will only spoil the joy.
